PRP Application in In Vitro Fertilization Treatment

What is PRP Method?

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a platelet-rich liquid prepared by centrifuging the patient's own blood. It is rich in tissue repairing growth factors and cytokines.

In Which Medical Branches is PRP Method Used?

Because of its tissue mending and rejuvenating capabilities, PRP is used in medical fields such as orthopedics, plastic surgery, and dermatology. In recent years, in vitro fertilization (IVF) patients have also been included in their areas of use.

What is Ovarian Rejuvenation with PRP?

It is a procedure that involves taking the platelet-rich portion of a person's blood and injecting it into the ovaries while under anesthesia.

Who are Eligible Candidates for Ovarian Rejuvenation?

  • Patients with weakened ovarian reserve despite their young age
  • Advanced age patients approaching menopause
  • Patients from whom quality eggs and embryos have not been obtained

What is Ovarian PRP Process?

Ovarian PRP procedure is the process of injecting PRP solution into the ovarian tissue under general anesthesia.

What is the Endometrial PRP Method in IVF Treatment? What Does This Method Do?

The number and quality of eggs are thought to increase in patients with reduced ovarian reserve when dormant egg cells are stimulated with PRP. Endometrial PRP can be applied in the uterus to patients whose uterine lining does not thicken during IVF treatment. Studies have also been published on its intrauterine administration to increase the chance of pregnancy in recurrent IVF failures.

For Which Patients is PRP Treatment Suitable?
It is appropriate to try ovarian PRP therapy for patients diagnosed with early menopause, whose AMH (Anti Müllerian) hormone and other hormone panel are compatible for assisted reproductive treatments, and for patients with non-thickening of the uterine wall (Endometrium) during Assisted Reproductive Treatment, Endometrial trial is appropriate.

How is PRP Applied in IVF Treatment?

At any stage of the cycle, except for the menstrual period, PRP solution is injected into the ovaries under light anesthesia under transvaginal ultrasound guidance. Its effect is estimated to last 6-8 months. It is necessary to wait two months after PRP has been performed. There have also been reports of patients becoming pregnant on their own during this time.

If no pregnancy occurs within two months, in vitro fertilization is initiated if the antral follicle count and hormone profile are acceptable. PRP can also be applied to patients with inadequate ovarian response during egg collection. It is also given to the uterus once or twice before the transfer in patients with a thin intrauterine membrane.

Who is Not a Candidate for PRP Treatment?

Patients with a family history of cancer, blood disorders, or infection at the application site are not suggested for PRP treatment.

Moreover, if there are suspected cysts, endometriosis, and endometriomas in the ovaries , PRP is not applied.

Patients with deficient AMH levels or tiny ovaries have a lower chance of benefiting.

Which Hormone Results are Important for Pre-PRP Treatment Evaluation?

Before initiating PRP treatment, it is critical to assess the patient's hormone panels, particularly AMH, to see whether they are a good candidate for the procedure.

How Long Should Hormone Tests Be Performed for Compliance with PRP Treatment at Most?

It is critical to have up-to-date hormone tests to assess a patient's suitability for PRP treatment appropriately. It is necessary that the hormone panels performed do not exceed one year.

How Does PRP Treatment Support IVF/ICSI Treatments?

The main objective of PRP treatment is to promote tissue repair in the ovaries of female factor infertility patients who have been diagnosed with early menopause or menopause and to have a child using in vitro fertilization after monitoring the precious egg.

How Long After PRP Treatment is IVF/ICSI Treatment Performed?

IVF/ICSI treatment is undertaken after an average of 8 weeks of waiting after ovarian PRP administration.

What Are the Stages of PRP Treatment?

In order to determine whether the patients applying to our institution are suitable for PRP treatment and for the evaluation of our doctor, AMH results that have not exceeded one year, hormone panels, embryology epicrisis if there are previous in vitro fertilization trials are requested, and similarly, previous USG, HSG findings and if hysteroscopy, laparoscopy operations have been performed, their epicrisis is requested.

If our doctor approves our patient's suitability for PRP treatment, we can proceed to treatment after some tests and analyses that we seek from our patients prior to PRP treatment are completed.

What Should Be Done Before PRP Treatment?

Our patients, who are candidates for PRP treatment, must submit the examination and test results requested from them before the treatment in full.

How Can We Evaluate the Success Rate of PRP Treatments in Assisted Reproductive Treatments?

PRP therapies are still being studied in clinical trials all around the world to support reproductive treatments. As there is no standardized treatment approach, each patient's benefit from PRP treatment cannot be predicted in advance, and the frequency of benefit varies from patient to patient.

Is There a Certain Success Rate for PRP Treatments?

There is no success rate given to patients in female factor infertility treatments due to the ongoing clinical studies of PRP treatments.

Can Spontaneous Pregnancy Happen After PRP Treatments?

There may be a chance of spontaneous pregnancy after PRP treatment, as there are studies on PRP treatments, particularly in the scientific publications regarding the application of Ovarian PRP treatments to women with early menopause or menopause, but this chance is low.

What is the Effect of PRP Treatments on IVF Treatments?

Per our practices and clinical studies, we can state that PRP treatments are pretty helpful in IVF treatments. The main objective of PRP treatments is to increase the success rate of pregnancy with IVF treatment by obtaining precious egg or eggs with PRP application.

Which Patient Groups are Appropriate for the Ovarian PRP Procedure?

Ovarian PRP procedure is recommended and applied to patients diagnosed with early menopause or menopause.

Which Patient Groups are Appropriate for the Endometrial PRP Procedure?

Endometrial PRP is mainly used in patients with insufficient uterine wall thickness, or endometrial thickness, during the drug (medical) preparation phase of IVF treatments.

Are There Any Examinations and Tests That Should be Done Before PRP Treatments?

Several examinations and tests are requested from our patients before PRP treatment.

Is There a Scientific Basis for the Use of PRP Applications in Assisted Reproductive Treatments?

The PRP method is a method with clinical studies on its application to patients with early menopause and  menopause, and there are scientific publications on this subject.

Can PRP Treatment be Applied to Male Patients?

There is no scientific publication in the world about the application of PRP treatments to patients with male factor infertility problems.

Can Plasma Obtained from PRP Application be Injected to Spouses of Female Patients or 3rd Parties?

The plasma obtained from the patient can only be applied to herself.

Can PRP Treatments Be Applied to Patients During IVF Treatment?

It is recommended that ovarian PRP be injected at least 8 weeks before in vitro fertilization treatments in order for it to be effective. If the patient's embryos will be collected by pooling and there will be more than one egg collection process, the Ovarian PRP solution can be given to the ovaries during the first egg collection process.

However, if Endometrial PRP will be applied to the patient, PRP solution is given to the uterine wall (endometrium) 1-2 days before embryo transfer during IVF treatment.

Can PRP Applications be Applied in Sessions?

PRP applications are administered in multiple sessions depending on the patient's needs.
